At AQL we offer what’s known as the Circle of Care. The Circle of Care makes sure you receive the best possible support throughout your quit journey.
The Circle of Care is an AQL counsellor, doctor, local Aboriginal health worker or Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) worker working together as a team to empower you to live a full, healthy, and strong life!
“You don’t have to take the journey alone, there are people out there that’d love to help you. You are stronger than you think you are. No matter how much you tell yourself you’re not, you are.”
Tanisha, TIS Worker from Goolum Goolum Aboriginal Co-Operative
How it works
When you get support from AQL, you work with the same counsellor the whole way through your quitting journey. Your AQL counsellor will work together with your doctor, local Aboriginal health worker or TIS worker:
Your doctor, Aboriginal health worker or TIS worker will:
- provide you with basic information and advice on how to start your quit journey
- discuss whether nicotine replacement (NRT) is suitable, and which types
- check whether your usual medicines will need adjusting
- refer you to AQL (or you can call us or request a call back) .
AQL will:
- support and yarn with you about your quitting journey
- help you build a tailored quit plan based on how you want to quit
- give you general NRT information
- give you advice on dealing with cravings, nicotine withdrawals and how to manage triggers relating to giving up the smokes or vapes.
Your doctor, Aboriginal health worker or TIS worker will always be your local contact, and AQL will be extra support.
“Smoking isn’t part of our culture, so the best thing you can do for your health is quit smoking. Come on you mob, give us a call.”
Jamara, Butchulla and Meriam Mir woman and AQL counsellor
